On April 22 , Yu Bo, the Dean of School of Management met with Sir Michael Gregory, a professor of University of Cambridge and an Academician in Britain Royal Academy of Engineering and his partner.
Yu Bo, the Dean of the School of Management, introduced the school's history, the direction of research in the field of technology management, characteristics of Northeast manufacturing industry, features and some of the research topics possessed by the school therein. And Professor Michael Gregory introduced the Institute for Manufacturing he set up. The Institute's research is in close connection with the natural sciences, engineering, economics, management and other multi-disciplinary practice and has an important influence in Europe. Besides, Professor Michael Gregory showed great interest in cooperation with the School of Management and he was invited by Dean Yu Bo to pay a return visit to learn more about local businesses and strengthen bilateral cooperation. Afterwards, Professor Michael Gregory visited the laboratories and research institutes of School of Management, and then visited the city of Harbin Steam Turbine Plant and got to know further the technology strategy of the plant under current economy and its production process, discussed relevant issues with the teachers of School of Management who accompanied him.
Professor Mike Gregory is now a Fellow in Churchill College, University of Cambridge (which was established by the former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill to cultivate high-tech personnel), and the Executive Director of Cambridge-MIT Joint Research Institute (2005-2008), Officer of Forum on Professors British Engaged in Manufacturing. And he is a leader of the consultant team in technology and manufacturing management of British government. Besides, Professor Mike Gregory has made important contribution to manufacturing industry, technology management, policy consultancy, as well as training advanced personnel etc and therefore obtained several rewards. Five years ago, he received Level 1 Bath Medal of Commander of the Order British Empire (CBE). After that, he was awarded the highest level CBE in 2011. CBE is honors series issued by British Royal Family to the significant contributors. After Professor Gregory was canonized, he would be recognized as a knighthood and be known as Professor Sir Mike Gregory CBE. |
